Thanks 45 in MI for asking about suggestions on programs/teaching tools for your church. I have just recently learned about the emerging/emergent church, and I would like to pass on any helpful teaching aides to help reveal the truth to our younth/younger adults. Click here to reply to this post

I completely agree that the pastor and elders have the responsibility of keeping this new age movement from our local assemblies, but as you have stated "what if the pastor/elders are clueless." Can you recommend any good programs or teaching tools that I could suggest that would promote the proper awareness within my local church. Click here to reply to this post
Relationship with God

It is in my opinion if you have a true relationship with GOD the Holy Spirit will guide you in your walk with Christ. Apparently those that are interjecting there opinions and views that do not line up with the written Word of GOD, is not hearing from GOD or do not know his voice. I do believe the Bible tells us not to add to or take away from HIS Word. The Bible also says a little leaven leavens the whole loaf, meaning when you try to redefine the Word you have poisoned the true meaning, hence you are sure to go off course. Signs of the Times

My mother always warned us of the New Age movement - in the 70's! I think Christians thought they knew what to expect, and the emergent church offers the same "mystery" and "spirituality" in a new, more "Christian" format.
Brannon, I listen to your show every afternoon on my way home from work, and it makes me sad and angry! I teach Precept classes at my church, and I want to be able to warn others about the emergent church and the danger it poses to our faith! How can I tell them in a way they will understand?
I find myself failing to convey the concept, and when you say something against R Warren, watch out! That starts to step on some toes - what's wrong with Rick??? ARGH!
Anyway, this video is great, thanks for making it. Please talk some time on your show about how to explain the emergent church to others who are completely unaware of it. Thanks for your ministry! Click here to reply to this post
Rob's Velvet Elvis

Right on Brannon! I am a bi-vocational pastor and my other vocation is a high school teacher in a Christian school. This past fall at the ACSI convention in Orlando, FL, the ACSI leadership tauted Rob's book and even sold them at their book booth (they sould out by the way). I was appauled by this especially, when the day after the convention, I attended Rob's conference at the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal where he totally dismissed the first 11 chapters of Genesis, wooed the 3000 easily deceived and served mixed drinks and beer, while never praying or using a Bible (or scriptures in context) at all. It was sad. Especially when he received a standing ovation when he was done.
The Church is in trouble! And if you dare address it in many circles, you are "being judgemental". Even an organization like ACSI is on board with Rob.
Jude was right,we need to "...contend for the truth." Click here to reply to this post
Scramble It , Shake It , and Mark It With An "E"

My sister is a New Ager and frequently refers to "the Spirit" but never "the Holy Spirit." I believe it is a subconscious thing on her part because she and others in the New Age do not concern themselves with Holiness. They approve of the “unholy” and therefore can’t honestly refer to the Holy Spirit. In essence what they call "the spirit" is not the Holy Spirit at all but rather a different spirit. I believe Rob Bell easily follows suit. When I saw how the book's title was spelled, "Nooma" I thought, there they go again. Scrambling, shaking, and changing things up! He can’t even use the real Greek word for Spirit, which is “pneuma” ( from where we get the word pneumatic) and which is widely recognized and accepted throughout the Christian world. Instead he has felt compelled to coin a new word, “Nooma”. That’s really “cool,” I guess. What is even “cooler” (I am being facitious) is his scrambled up thoughts on the virgin birth. Bell goes so far as to ask the question in so many words, “Would our Christianity fall apart if we learned that Mary was not a virgin.” “But what if...the word “virgin” could mean several things. And what if you discover that in the first century being “born of a virgin” also referred to a child whose mother became pregnant the first time she had intercourse?” Brother! It seems to me that Rob Bell has to constantly come up with somethng New in order to satisfy (entertain) himself. Unlike God, whose thouhts are higher than ours and whose thoughts are forever settled in Heaven, Rob Bell can’t make up his mind about any of it. What if? Maybe! I think! New Revelations, New Definitions, New Words, New Age! In all actuality Bell and his followers have chosen the perfect name for themselves,” Emerging/Emergent!” Sort of reminds me of the word “Dawning!” Just as Satan has his following of New Agers out side of the Church who are on the edge of their seats, all expectant that the New Spirituality, the Age of Aquarius is “Dawning,” he has his cohorts in the Church just as expectant that their New Spirituality is” Emerging” Call it what you like, "New Age Dawning" or "New Spirituality Emerging," it is one and the same, The beginnings of a One World Religion. Brannon takes on the emergent church

Brannon I would like to thank you as well for speaking out on the dangers of the Emergent Church. Both Bell and Mclaren are willing to reject historical teachings and deny the asbsolute authority of the Bible in order to attract the younger generation. With a flexible approach to theology a postmodernist can re-ananlyse the Bible or re-think Christinanity to suite themselves instead of pleasing God. We must do whatever is necessary to keep this type of teaching out of our local assemblies. Click here to reply to this post

I fully agree with what you are saying , what do you think we sould do in order to keep this kind of movement from effecting the society of believers today. When it is so attrative to them because of being self-indulgent to the younger generation. Click here to reply to this post
Those That Are His

I don't think you can keep it out. It is here to stay. It is the falling away that the bible speaks of. Many, many so called Christians will fall for it. The only thing I think we can do is "in the face of much opposition" speak the truth about these things. Those that have ears to hear will perhaps balk in the beginning, but will eventually research these things themselves and come to the same conculusions we have. Just as 36 in MS mentioned, most people have a hard time hearing this stuff. But I believe those that are His, will receive these things. Click here to reply to this post

62yr old from Mi., A church that we were attending several yrs ago(the time "purpose driven")came out was all for it. Thanks to well informed (spiritually) and and programs such as W.V.W. A. Howse that now we are back on track.
This new age emergence seems to (@times)be very suttle and very disturbing. I feel that it is really up to the pastor or if the pastor is clueless then the elders. no doubt that it is just one more tool that satan has to destroy the church. Click here to reply to this post

Brannon, Thank you. I am a member of a group of Christian School administrators who meet each month to discuss issues related to Christian education. Part of what we do is a "book club" like discussion. Last year we looked into Velvet Elvis as part of our devotional time. What suprised me most is that among the seven participants, only I saw the extreme danger in Mr, Bell's philosophy as explained in his book. I used the Christianity Today article as foundation for my arguments, but it seemed to fall on "deaf" ears. At least one of these Christian schools have used the NOOMA series as part of their chapel.
How have we fallen so far, so fast into the mindset of secular tolerance and humanism?
Keep up the good work!!! Click here to reply to this post
