Good job, Landon! Keep up the good work. It's great to know what you believe and why you believe it. You will be challenged on your beliefs. That's just a part of life. It's great to know that you'll be prepared to give a good answer to those who challenge you.

Are You Biblically Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

As a younger kid I was on a bible quiz team. Each month I had a chapter of the bible to memorize word for word KJV. Then at the end of the months the Central Indiana Youth Rally's for Christ were had and the teams from the churches present would compete answering 10 questions. I have never regretted memorizing and being apart of it. Now that I am out of school and living and working in the world the memorization of those chapters have helped me tremendously with witnessing, and daily defending of the truth of God's Word. Landon, you are only doing yourself a huge favor by memorizing the scriptures now because God says that His word will not return void."Isaiah 55:11" God will allow you to bring them to memory when you need them. Also, I think this is something today's Christian lacks is a proper understanding for and of God's Word. I believe that the book will be very helpful to those who are looking to become more biblically sound. Praise the Lord!!

I was a whiz at memorizing Scripture as a youngster. My Mom and Dad were both in love with The Lord from the time I was 10 years old, and subsequently they went into ministry and then went to the Mission Field when I turned 16 where my Sister and I accompanied them. As much as I loved my folks, our relationship was not very close till I was 30. The same was also true of the other missionaries with our Mission Agency. This was because all of them were so busy doing the work of The Lord that very honestly they didn't have time to be companions. Though they loved me dearly, in many ways I was neglected. I became very proud and could not admit I needed help. When I was in my late 20's I got into a lot of trouble, becoming a disappointment to myself, my family, the society, the Law, and especially The Lord Jesus. When all of this came down my folks came and pulled together working with me very closely, helping me to really seek The Lord. It's a long story how I finally became a Man of God, and most of it involved time alone with Him, followed by my parents coming to help me get over the physical, mental, and spiritual hurdles that crushed my pride and allowed God to create something new and wonderful in me. I was a wreck and The Lord Jesus sent Mom and Dad to nurse me back to health, coming together to create an environment where I became a true Man of God. 37 years later, The Lord has used me to help found The Rescue Mission of Salt Lake, 13 Churches in the Salt Lake Area, become a foster parent to nearly 4,000 children, rescue 10,000 Cambodian Refugees from certain starvation and horrific conditions, be one of the founders of both the Salt Lake Food Bank and the National Food Bank, as well as providing a home where I am Dad to men who are struggling to get back on their feet from whatever has left them homeless.
My experiences in being something of a whiz kid at Scripture memorization, having somewhat of an experience with The Lord, being an MK or PK and then getting into serious trouble aren't unique. They are all too common in and out of the ministry. This would be especially true in our society where many Churches in the US seem to be anything but what God has in mind. Yes, teach The Word to your Children, but above all, be a companion to them, not only showing them an example, but letting them get involved with you on every important level. They need to feel free to talk about absolutely everything. If they become estranged they may not return like I and the prodigal son did.
Thank God that He rescued me and sent my parents back to be involved in helping me. This is a large part of why I do what I do. God has called me to be a father to the fatherless, a hope to the hopeless and a helper to the helpless. This is what I've been for 37 years. I'm a nobody that Jesus saved and uses. It could be anyone that God would choose to do what I do. But for God's sake don't let your children become casualties. Help them to become godly men and women from the start. Be a companion in the Faith to them.
God Bless,
Rob

It shows that a child can be trained and can memorize scripture. My only concern is that on the video, all the child did was quote scripture in response to the question. Can he explain what the verse means? Does he understand the meaning of the verse? I'm trying not to be critical, but would like the child to be able to understand what that verse is saying and be able to explain it.

Congratulations to you both for this great approach to the continuance of our Faith in the world. Landon, you did a great job. Keep up your studies in the Word and follow both your Father on earth and your Father in heaven. Your life will certainly be one of courage, strength, and blessing. Brandon, for some extra exhortations that represent your approach I would encourage you to take moment to listen to a message delivered to an audience of Pastors at the Texas Baptist Convention by Voddie Baucham. I would suspect that you have developed a great relationship with him over the past year and could probably get a copy of it if you don't already have one. If not able, you can find a broadcast of the message on Family Life Today.(copy this complete link to your browser)

It is a two day broadcast but only lasts about 50 minutes total. I would encourage all your audience to take a moment to listen to this. It has certainly helped me to maintain my Biblical approach to parenting and even defend my reasons more accurately; even to those in my family and church.
Thanks again guys. You've done a great service to us all.

Way to go Landon! Mr. Howse, I applaud you and the effort you are making to diligently teach the word of God to your children. My husband and I believe that the Word of God commands parents to be the formal and informal teachers of God's word and His ways to our children. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) We are intentional about reading the word of God to them, and with our oldest (almost 4) we are intentional about memorizing scripture with her. We also try to make the most of every day life situations to teach our children about God's ways and to impart His truth in their life. The hardest part of diligently teaching our children is actually modeling it - walking in truth, glorifying God, and reflecting Christ in our home (especially in our failures and shortcomings). We believe as we do this, that our children will not only "hear" a biblical worldview but "see" a biblical worldview in action. As an unacceptable percentage of young people are leaving the church, we pray that our efforts to consistently teach our children the word of God and model His wonderful ways in our home will draw all of our children to true faith in our loving Savior that remains for a lifetime.

The author is right on target. The Protestant Church is reaching the point where in fact it is a form of godliness but the power is denied.
It's not just our Youth, I go to a church where there seems to be no understanding of Christian responsibility. It's more of a Christian social club completely unconcerned about the lost. I mentioned my concern and that I was looking for another Church and they admitted they had done the same thing but couldn't find any that were any better. My search is finding the same thing.

Thanks Brannon and Landon. We hope that your message reaches many so others may know what is truly important in training and teaching children. Sadly, many parents lack a passion to pursue what you are doing.

I think this is good information. My children are involved in Junior Bible Quiz through our church which teaches them scripture and doctrine. I believe it is important for people to understand why they believe what they are taught. Thank you for bringing this to attention.

I wish we could train millions of young people Gods Holy word, just like this young man.I have been a teacher of Children all My Christan life and I know that they have a hunger for learning God`s word, they are our future churches and with out them our churches will slowly die.We need more Godly men and women that love the Lord enough to teach them His word,so keep up your good work and God will bless you for it.
Love in Christ,
