(Mat 23:23) Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and you have left undone the weightier matters of the Law, judgment, mercy, and faith. You ought to have done these and not to leave the other undone. (Mat 23:24) Blind guides who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! (Mat 23:25) Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of extortion and excess. (Mat 23:26) Blind Pharisee! First cleanse the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of them may be clean also. (Mat 23:27) Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outside, but inside they are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. (Mat 23:28) Even so you also appear righteous to men outwardly, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. (Mat 23:29) Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets, and decorate the tombs of the righteous, (Mat 23:30) and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. (Mat 23:31) Therefore you are witnesses to yourselves, that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets; (Mat 23:32) and you fill up the measure of your fathers. (Mat 23:33) Serpents! Offspring of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell? (Act 7:48) But, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says, (Act 7:49) "Heaven is My throne and earth is My footstool. What house will you build Me, says the Lord, or what is the place of My rest? (Act 7:50) Has not My hand made all these things?" (Act 7:51) O stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so you do. (Act 7:52) Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you have now been the betrayers and murderers; (Act 7:53) who received the Law through disposition of angels, and did not keep it. You are still trying to do it the old way and still calling it new. (Jas 2:10) For whoever shall keep the whole Law and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. What is the payment for this? The law shows us our sin and the Holy Spirit shows us our salvation in Christ Jesus. Maybe we should start focusing on the right thing, not the law and relgion you speak of, but the salvation of Christ Jesus.

  1. Warning of the Evil Times is on Topic
    Posted On: 06/28/08 05:19:01 PMAge 54, TX
Dear "Staying on Topic", You quoted great Scriptures--many of which were Jesus' own words against the Sadducees, Scribes, and Pharisees, who were the polital leaders of His days. Jesus repeatedly warned His people of their leaders' dangerous influence. He warned the Jews not to be deceived by them. Our culture has been deceived by our political and educational (and, sadly, our church)leaders. I taught high school and saw the carnage of our country's humanist world view--foul-mouthed, irreverant youth obsessed with sex and self-satisfaction. But I didn't make the connection to our worldview until God opened my eyes recently to the lies we absorb from our culture. Even most people who sit in our "church" buildings that profess to have received the salvation of Christ Jesus have been sucked in by our culture's lure of self-indulgence, tolerance of every belief and lifestyle, and sexual freedoms and perversions. They truly think they are disciples because they profess to know Jesus, but they are living according to the lies of Satan. Because of these cutural lies, even our pastors have been deceived. It is very difficult to find a "church" that truly preaches that Jesus, the fulfillment of the law, is the only way to Heaven and that to love Jesus means to die to self daily and obey Him. YES, we need to preach the salvation of Jesus Christ, but if we hide our eyes to what's happening in the world around us, we'll be irrelevant to those seeking Salvation. If the "church" is just like the world, we have no light to draw sinners. We may already be too late to save our freedom of worship, but we can still sound the alarm so that when the terror of religious persecution comes upon those who profess Jesus, some who are sitting on the fence will see the Truth and accept His great salvation even if it means martyrdom. If we leave them blinded by the culture, they will deny Christ rather than lose their security and comfort.

"My sheep know my voice and shall not follow a stranger" My thought is if I take them to Christ and they choose Him they will be lead by the Holy Spirit who will direct them. This may seem a little different to moderen Christian teaching, it is scriptual though. The job of church is to lead, not drag and guilt sinners to salvation through the law. The law kills and Christ saves. Yes some may find Him through the law, but many don't choose Him becuase they know already they can't keep the list of rules we creat and call it Christianity. May you all find the love of Christ and not the law of the church.

      1. If you love me follow my commands
        Posted On: 07/01/08 04:48:36 PMAge 51, GA
Well said Brannon. I personally find it an honor and a spiritual duty to set my sights on obedience. God bless. Jesus said, if you love me follow my commands, and take up your cross daily. Not suggestions, commands. Why are so many afraid of laws, rules and commands? Just like the education system has been dumbed down, the church has raised up a bunch of wimpy, cry-baby Christians who don't want to take any responsiblity for their actions. The scripture says to renew our minds, take every thought captive, and to crucify our flesh. That requires doing things that aren't easy or pleasurable.

        1. Can You Hear Me Now! From Jesus
          Posted On: 07/03/08 07:03:45 AMAge 47, WI
(Joh 14:15-17) If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, so that He may be with you forever, the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him. But you know Him, for He dwells with you and shall be in you. (You seem to leave out parts like the Holy Spirit doing the guiding and instructing not your list of laws. Christ gave us 2 laws to follow, Love the Lord your God and Love your neighbor as yourself. Read Matthew 11: 15-30 are you the one who would call John a demon possed man or are you the one who would call Christ a wine bibber and a glutten? You call believers wimpy, cry-baby Christians and talk of your honor and duty to obedience. So try obeying the Lord and show The Fruit of The Spirit to people around you. Take your critical tounge and bridle it.) Verse 30 says "my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

      2. LAW NOT AT ODDS WITH GRACE
        Posted On: 07/01/08 03:22:11 PMAge 44, MS
Christians are not free FROM the law, but rather FREE TO KEEP THE LAW by the power of God's indwelling Spirit - something which was not possible prior to salvation, having been previously enslaved to sin ("That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit" - Rom. 8:4-8). In 2 Cor. 3:3,6 the concept of "letter" (which kills) represents the law as written only with ink on paper or engraved on stone. By contrast, "Spirit" (which gives life) represents God's law as written on the believer's heart by the Holy Spirit. Thus, the Biblical contrast is NOT between Christianity vs. Law, but rather between Law written externally vs. Law written internally. Jer. 31:33 says, " I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts." Legalism (such as that of the Pharisees) teaches that law-keeping saves a person or makes him more spiritual, thereby allowing a man to save himself from the curse of the Law. However, the Bible teaches law-keeping as a guaranteed EFFECT of salvation and sanctification - not its CAUSE. If we are to insist upon sanctification, we must look for the fruits of salvation and sanctification. "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world" (Titus 2:11-12). "Ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousnes." (Jude 4).

        1. Gods grace is a free gift

(Mat 15:9) But in vain they worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." (Mat 22:36-40) Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. This is a quote from your blog "However, the Bible teaches law-keeping as a guaranteed EFFECT of salvation and sanctification - not its CAUSE. If we are to insist upon sanctification, we must look for the fruits of salvation and sanctification." My questions are these which laws are you talking about keeping? What commandments are you keeping?

Happy 4th of July. Our country is under the dominion of sinful men and is being laid to waste by their perverted use of power. This has become quite evident as the Supreme Court has recently ruled that rapists may no longer be issued the death penalty as a proper punishment for their depraved crimes against children. In his decision, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote, "The death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child." His four liberal colleagues joined him, while the four more conservative justices dissented. Justice Kennedy said the absence of any executions for rape and the small numbers of states that allow it demonstrate that "there is a national consensus against capital punishment for the crime of child rape." Justice Kennedy also made it clear that the decision does not affect the imposition of the death penalty for other crimes that do not involve murder, including treason and espionage against the nation. In this last statement, Justice Kennedy was clearly affirming his belief in the fundamental principle that the nation is essentially the source of all sovereignty and that no individual victim is entitled to any authority which is not expressly derived from it. Yes the judge affirmed that acts against the nation may still be punishable by death, but the innocent victims of rape may not receive similar justice or restitution because they are not equal in value to their nation. This decision will further act like a boot that will continue to grind down the face of individual victims and their natural rights for justice after depraved crimes have been committed against them. Without declaring it upfront, Justice Kennedy and his cohorts have declared the state as god and offered that it is the sole source of authority, morality, and dominion. A healthy society is one that protects the family because it recognizes that its survival is at stake. One area of protection is against violence and rape, but as we have just witnessed, the lawless cannot enforce the law. Since the nation has steadily encroached on the family over the last fifty years by declaring itself sovereign and allowing the murder of unborn children and the loose issuance of the divorce certificate at any whim, it is not surprising that they have now relegated child rape to the realm of things peripheral and relatively unimportant. A grave and sad thought as we look to celebrate our “freedom and liberty” on the 4th of July.
